5.5-Month Overseas Internship
March to August 2019
In my third year in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, I was selected to participate in the Global Entrepreneurial Internship Programme. This programme allows students to develop their interest and aptitude in working in an overseas startup.

Throughout this internship, I was able to apply psychological concepts in a different setting compared to my peers who interned at family service centres and social service organisations.
Where did I go?
I was selected to intern at ArcticStartup, a media and events company based in Helsinki, Finland. ArcticStartup organises both large-scale conferences and smaller-scale community events that connect business professionals – investors, entrepreneurs, start-ups, corporates and the public sector – for quality networking and business relationship building.
What was my role?
I was entrusted with the task of social media content production and handling 8 social media pages including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and Telegram. I often assisted the marketing team in copywriting for email newsletters and our website. Besides that, I was often tasked to design marketing and promotional materials for conferences, community events and workshops.

Arctic15
ArcticStartup's Flagship Event
Every year, ArcticStartup hosts their flagship event, Arctic15, a large-scale two-day conference which attracts more than 2,000 attendees.

Here is an information packet that I designed for this event.

After the event, I was tasked to produce social media content as a recap for the participants. Here are some posts that I prepared for the social media team.

What are my takeaways from this internship?
ArcticStartup events bring people from major global economies like China, India and all over Europe to Finland. This required me to be flexible, culturally aware, and to react and communicate promptly with multiple stakeholders. Additionally, my role of social media content production enhanced my understanding of online user behaviour, allowing me to communicate effectively via visual information. I have definitely become a better communicator, both in speech and via audio-visual communication, after this internship experience.

Being in a different working environment compared to Singapore has helped me broaden my mindset and worldview; I have learnt to adapt to styles that I never knew existed. Also, being placed in a fast-paced environment where I had to communicate with renowned speakers and professionals from various fields and being entrusted with tasks from many people at the same time, I have learnt to prioritize my tasks and handle my stresses better.
