Collaboration with Admiralty Student Care Centre

June to July 2018

As part of my coursework, I designed and executed a three-session programme for about 10 primary school children from low-income families. This programme sought to address issues of self-awareness, identifying emotions, and stress management in vulnerable children.

I learnt the importance of using children-friendly approaches when working with children
Working closely with my team was important in delivering a successful programme
Using colourful and visually attractive visual aids to engage the children
Our budget was allocated to practical gifts to encourage and reward good behaviour
Tailoring communication methods to match the needs of children

Thanks to this project,

I am inspired to advocate for mental health in children by telling my family members and parents of my tutees (I do part-time tutoring in my own time) the importance of identifying anxiety-causing behaviours in children and not to dismiss their mental health. I am also inspired to volunteer for projects that target children and mental health. As a “big sister” that these children look up to, I hope to mentor them and bolster their mental health.
